To Shim or Not To Shim?

To Shim or Not To Shim? Not To Shim. When installing or maintaining VMAC Air Compressors it can be tempting to shim idler pulleys if they are not entirely aligned. This should NOT be done. Brackets are precision machined and everything is aligned as a unit.

If there is belt wear or an alignment issue the following should be checked:
- tensioner is worn out (most likely)
- compressor coming loose on the bracket
- bracket coming loose on the engine block
- pulley bearing having too much play
- pulley bearing seized up

Any movement will cause belt issues. The problem must be fully troublshooted to determine the cause of misalignment. As well, as part of a proper servicing schedule or belt maintenance, all of the above should be checked.

So next time you are tempted to shim that idler pulley, think again. VMAC Technical Support is available 5:00am - 4:30pm PST Monday - Friday. Call 1-800-738-8622 (PRESS #2).

VMAC Advertising in January

VMAC works very hard at marketing its products to customers who might demand a product a little bit different. Part of this strategy is to advertise in trade publications. Look for our ads in the following publications next month:

  • Construction Equipment
  • Construction Pro
  • Equipment World
  • Government Products News
  • NTEA Roster
  • Trailer Body Builders

If there are trade publications that you or your customers read, please let us know so we can have a look at them.

V900071 Kit Discontinued

Due to the lack of space between the engine and the radiator, VMAC is unable to fit a system on this truck withou having clearance issures. To prevent issues your customers may have with this kit, we have been forced to discontinue selling the V900071. This kit fits the 2003-2004.5 Dodge 5.9L Diesel engines.

The 2004.5 and newer Dodge trucks do not have these clearance issues. The V900077 system and the soon to be released V900084 system for the 2005 Dodge 5.9L Diesel meet all of our requirements. We apologize for any difficulties this may cause.
